File sharing in a free world

In 1999, Napster brought file sharing into the limelight. This was the beginning of what can be considered a revolution in file sharing technology that is prevalent today. Napster had its limitations, which was later improved upon by other file sharing programs like Ares. Today, you can download movie files, music, images, software, and much more. Viruses, spyware, and adware have been a major problem with downloadable files, an issue that has been addressed by many file sharing programs. The crackdown by record companies, and the ‘Recording Industry Association of America in particular, on copyright issues, led to a number of lawsuits being filed.

P2P networks seemed to have overcome all these issues and have a large following today. With easy and quick access to millions of songs, full length movies, games, and more, the community seems to be increasing rapidly. Most P2P networks access multiple sites in order to provide you with speedy downloads. They are easy to install, user-friendly, and are packed with a host of features such as mp3 and movie players, CD and DVD burners, and more. Whatever the drawbacks, the advantages of file sharing are plenty. Talented developers are constantly working on improving P2P technology and have even found ways to outsmart hackers and viruses.
